The MyoCare® Program

The MyoCare® Program: Support Program to Onboard for Success

The MyoPro® is an advanced orthotic device that requires training and practice to use effectively. Through the MyoCare Program, we provide new users with a structured training roadmap, ongoing support, and guidance to help them get started.

Training is carried out by your treating occupational or physical therapist (OT/PT), who has been trained in the use of the MyoPro®. Your therapist will work with you and your caregiver to build the skills needed for safe, confident, everyday use.

What to Expect

What to Expect

Mastering the MyoPro is not just about learning to “turn it on,” it’s about retraining your brain and muscles to work together again.

1

The Delivery & Initial Programming

A certified orthotist/prosthetist ensures the MyoPro fits comfortably and the sensors are placed correctly to read your muscle signals. They will also program the MyoPro using our clinical software so that the sensitivity of the sensors match your current muscle strength. Instructions will be provided to the user and caregiver on how to put the MyoPro on and use it safely.

2

Proficiency Development (approx. 10-12 Weeks)

You will work with your local OT or PT and start practicing basic movements such as bending/straightening your elbow and opening and closing your hand. You’ll then progress to combining those movements in preparation for functional tasks. This stage requires a lot of consistent practice and repetition both in and out of therapy to improve control of the MyoPro.

3

Functional Integration

As you build endurance and co-ordination, training begins to incorporate basic functional tasks and “Activities of Daily Living” (ADLs). For example, carrying a light bag, cutting food on a cutting board, carrying a laundry basket and opening containers. Your OT or PT can help you customize your goals and set you up with a home training program.

4

Support

Our MyoCare team helps support you and your treating therapist along your MyoPro journey.

Who It Is For

Who This Is For (And the Caregiver’s Role)

The User

Who should be willing to participate in regular therapy sessions (typically 1-2 times per week initially).

The Caregiver

Who acts as the “pit crew,” helping with donning/doffing (putting the device on) and encouraging home practice and engagement with the training program.

The Clinician

Who wants to offer neurotechnology solutions supported by a turnkey program designed to help support early adoption and ongoing use of the technology.

The Caregiver’s Essential Tasks

  • Donning/Doffing: Ensuring the sensors make good skin contact and straps are secure. To doff the MyoPro, turn the device off, release the finger, hand, forearm, and upper arm straps in sequence, carefully remove the arm from the orthosis, inspect the skin, and store the device safely.
  • Skin Checks: Monitoring for any pressure points during the initial “break-in” period.
  • Charging: Making sure the MyoPro battery is charged and ready for the next day’s activities.
  • Motivation: Offering support and encouragement to the user.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is practice mandatory for MyoPro users?

Clinical success is directly tied to regular practice at home and participation in therapy. The MyoPro is not a “quick fix”. While attending therapy with a local OT/PT is not mandatory, it is very strongly encouraged to maximize outcomes.

How long does it take to become proficient with the MyoPro?

While many see movement in the arm on day one, it takes frequent practice and repetition to build endurance, co-ordination and functional ability. Results can vary based on the individual’s circumstances and adherence to their training program.

Does my local OT need to be a MyoPro expert?

No. However, your therapist should be willing to complete MyoPro training to learn how the device works and how it can be incorporated into therapy sessions. Our MyoCare team provides training and clinical support for local therapists to help them integrate the MyoPro® into therapy and support your use of the device.

What if my caregiver isn’t tech-savvy?

Once training and initial setup are complete, daily operation of the MyoPro® is designed to be straightforward. Day-to-day use primarily involves donning the device and using its control buttons. The MyoPro® mobile app is available as an additional tool, but it is not required for routine device use and does not need to be used every time the MyoPro® is worn.

How many hours a day should I wear it?

We recommend a gradual wear schedule, starting with approximately 30 to 60 minutes per day and gradually increasing as your endurance improves. Your treating therapist can provide recommendations on increasing wearing time.

What happens if I struggle with a specific movement?

Your treating therapist will guide your care and make software adjustments as needed, to make movement easier.

Does the MyoCare program cost extra?

There is no charge for receiving support from our MyoCare team. Co-pays or other costs associated with therapy sessions are subject to insurance coverage guidelines and approval and are not included in the cost of the MyoPro.
